Aquatic Therapy's Impact & Mermaid Party 2023
The Magic of Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy comes with a multitude of benefits for individuals with neurological disorders ranging from promoting functional mobility, lumbar stabilization, and balance while allowing participants to gain confidence in a safe environment. What makes aquatic therapy special is that it allows these individuals to perform tasks to improve strength and physical health in the water that they would be unable to perform on land.
Water’s Gentle Embrace
Another aspect of aquatic therapy that proves to be beneficial is the water provides buoyancy which takes “pressure off the human body and allows for pain relief”, as stated by Gary Olson, a trainer at a Harvard- affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. Overall, aquatic therapy provides numerous physical and emotional benefits, while also promoting an environment for individuals with neurological disorders to socialize and have a sense of community.
